ecobee Smart Home & Away
ecobee's Smart Home & Away feature uses occupancy information from a compatible thermostat and participating SmartSensors to adjust around the programmed schedule. Phone-based geofencing is a separate integration whose setup depends on the phone platform and smart-home system. Do not describe Smart Home & Away itself as GPS geofencing.
Google Home presence sensing
Google Home presence sensing can use the location of participating household phones and activity signals from supported Nest or smart-home devices. Home and Away behavior depends on the products, permissions, and automations the household enables. Google changes app navigation over time, so use the current setup instructions instead of a click-by-click path.
Settings to confirm
Before enabling automatic Home and Away changes, confirm which phones and devices are allowed to contribute, what temperature action will occur, and how pets, guests, or someone leaving a phone at home may affect the result. Review those settings again after an app or household-member change.
