We Know
Amherst Homes.

Amherst is known for its generous lots and a carefully guarded historic center. A Historic District Commission oversees the village around the common. The old center keeps its look while the newer neighborhoods spread out on big lots around it.

Housing: About 93 percent of Amherst's housing units are single-family homes, and just about the same share are owner-occupied. Most of these homes sit on good-sized lots. Near the common you'll find older colonial and cape-style homes, some going back generations. The 1970s and 1980s were the busy building years and account for roughly 44 percent of the houses in town. The remaining homes mostly went up from the 1990s on, and the median home dates to around 1978.

Amherst's village center around the common dates to about 1755, and the Congregational Church went up in the early 1770s. The village center has stayed preserved for well over 200 years, one of the finest surviving examples of an early New England village center. Amherst was also the first county seat of Hillsborough County, until the seat moved to Milford in 1866.

Heating in Amherst

Liberty Utilities runs natural gas to part of town. Plenty of homes in the older and more rural areas still heat with oil or propane, and we install and service all three. A lot of those houses date back to the peak building years, so we stay busy swapping out aging oil and propane boilers and furnaces. Where a natural gas main runs along the street, we'll also do oil-to-gas conversions. In the older village homes on hot-water heat, we handle boiler swaps and the piping around them. In neighborhoods without natural gas service, a propane or high-efficiency oil system is still the way to go.

Mini Split Installation

Cooling in Amherst

We install a lot of cold-climate mini splits in Amherst, and multi-zone jobs are common in the bigger custom homes. Plenty of the older village houses were built around hot-water heat and never had ductwork. A ductless heat pump adds real cooling to those homes without tearing into finished walls. If a house already has forced-air, we'll fit central A/C or a ducted heat pump instead. Either way, we size each zone to its room so nothing ends up over- or under-cooled.

Cooling Services We Provide

We install, repair, and service all types of cooling equipment in Amherst, including central air, heat pumps, and ductless mini splits. With thousands of ductless installations completed across Southern NH, our team has extensive experience. We respond quickly when you need a repair or replacement.

Water treatment and filtration by A.J. LeBlanc Heating in Amherst, NH
Water Treatment

Filtration, Softeners
& Testing

Water Treatment in Amherst

Amherst has many private wells along with limited public-water service. Documented work involving PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), a family of long-lasting chemicals, has included investigations and public-water extensions in defined areas near Cobbler Lane and Thatcher Drive. Those local response areas do not describe every Amherst well.

If your home has a private well, we use a current laboratory panel and add PFAS testing when the location or state guidance supports it. Treatment may include sediment filtration, iron or manganese filtration, a softener for measured hardness, sulfur-odor treatment, whole-house ultraviolet treatment for confirmed bacteria, or arsenic treatment selected for the laboratory result. Any PFAS result needs equipment chosen for that contaminant with verified performance.

Public-water customers can consider activated carbon or a dedicated drinking-water system for a specific goal at the tap.

Water Treatment Services We Provide

Our team installs and services water-treatment equipment for Amherst homes. We use independent laboratory results for private wells and the utility report and condition at the tap for public-water homes.

  • Well Water Filtration
  • Water Softeners
  • Iron & Manganese Removal
  • Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water

Plumbing in Amherst

Amherst's private wells and public-water extensions give homes different supply and treatment arrangements. When sediment, hardness, or pressure is affecting fixtures throughout the property, we look at that connection. Most plumbing repairs are still specific to the home, including leaking faucets and pipes, toilets that will not stop running, failed shutoff valves, poor hot-water delivery, and recurring drain trouble.

We identify the cause, explain the options, and keep treatment recommendations limited to situations where the water is contributing to the problem.

Plumbing Services We Provide

From everyday plumbing repairs to water-heater and well-tank service, we help homeowners throughout Amherst. We also service pressure switches and related well-system controls.

Why Work With Us

Local to Amherst.
Trusted Since 1928.

We take the time to walk Amherst homeowners through the options and the tradeoffs, so you're never guessing. In the village historic district, we plan equipment placement with the home's historic character in mind. The bigger custom homes often need multi-zone systems, and we size every install around what the house actually calls for. A lot of the equipment around here is well past its prime, so a good share of our work is swapping out aging boilers, furnaces, and AC for the right-sized replacement.

Do you handle both HVAC and plumbing?

Yes. We handle heating, cooling, plumbing, and electrical all under one roof. That means one call, one relationship, and one company familiar with your whole home. No coordinating between multiple vendors or schedules.

Do I need water treatment in Amherst?

It depends on your water source and your goals. For a private well, we collect a sample and send it to an independent laboratory. We use the results to recommend treatment only when the water calls for it. For public water, we review the utility report and investigate the condition at the tap before recommending additional equipment.

What water treatment systems do you install in Amherst?

We install water softeners, iron and manganese filters, sediment filters, activated-carbon filters, whole-house ultraviolet systems, arsenic-treatment systems, and under-sink reverse osmosis. Equipment is selected and sized from independent laboratory results, the public-water report, and the homeowner's specific goal. For radon in well water, we can provide contact information for an independent mitigation company.

What plumbing services do you offer in Amherst?

We handle water heaters, drain cleaning, faucet and fixture installation, leak and pipe repair, shutoff valves, and water-supply and drain piping throughout the home. If the home uses a private well, we also service the well tank, pressure switch, and related controls. We complete selected exterior piping as well, including irrigation and accessory-dwelling-unit connections.
