Chemical-Free Bacteria Protection for Well Water

UV water purification uses ultraviolet light to destroy the DNA of bacteria, viruses, cysts, and other microorganisms, rendering them unable to reproduce and making them harmless. It is a highly effective, chemical-free method of disinfecting private well water, and it is often recommended after a water test shows a well is positive for coliform bacteria.

UV with Pre-Filtration

Combining UV with Sediment and Carbon Filtration

UV works best when paired with a sediment pre-filter. Turbid or iron-heavy water can shield microorganisms from UV light. We design complete systems that address all your well water issues together.

  • Sediment pre-filter removes particles before UV chamber
  • Carbon post-filter for taste and odor improvement
  • Iron filtration if needed upstream of UV
  • Complete well water treatment in one system
  • Single annual service covers the entire system

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Does UV purification kill all bacteria?

UV at the proper dosage is effective against virtually all known waterborne pathogens including E. coli, coliform, Giardia, Cryptosporidium, and most viruses. It requires adequate UV dosage and clear water. Turbid water can reduce effectiveness, which is why a sediment pre-filter is recommended.

Is UV purification safe?

Yes. UV purification adds nothing to your water. It simply exposes water to UV light that destroys microorganism DNA. There are no chemical byproducts and no effect on taste or odor.

How often does the UV lamp need to be replaced?

UV lamps should be replaced annually. Even if the lamp is still glowing, its UV output degrades over time. Most systems have a controller that tracks lamp hours and alerts you when replacement is needed.

Do I need UV if my well water tested clean?

A well can test clean one year and test positive for bacteria the next, especially after heavy rainfall or flooding. Many well owners install UV as a permanent safeguard regardless of test results.
